All you need are pieces of paper, tape, glue sticks, hot glue or double sided tape, and these three ideas.

Absorb these 3 ideas

IDEA 1: BITS AND PIECES

You can use small fragments of paper.

You can use odd, non-wrapping materials, such as twigs, bottle caps or even colorful breakfast foods.

IDEA 2: TAKE IT EASY

Focus on the front of the package.

The back of the package is backstage; it's ok to let it be messy.

IDEA 3: CONTRAST

Contrast of color.

Contrast of light and dark.

Contrast of texture or material.

Contrast of line (angled paper on rectangular boxes).

WRAP ART: THE BOOK

wrap art book

40 pages, 7"x7", full color, hardcover or paperback.

Gallery Two: Collages

Puffy Wrap for an Irregular Object

Brown-bag Wrap with Foam Underwrap

This package contains a garlic press on its original display card. I wrapped its lumpy form in a piece of 1" thick soft foam. That made it into a smooth object that was easy to wrap in brown paper, like a ift burrito. I finished it with strips of wallpaper. I added 3 berries from a backyard bush to add a touch of sculptural complexity. The writing is placed in a contrasting 90 degree position.

Easy: The foam underwrap lets you wrap an odd-shaped object quickly. The brown-bag base wrap permits a wrinkly look.

Contrast: brown-bag wrinkles/ fancy wallpaper. 90 degree opposition of writing and decorative bands.

Collage

Craft Paper on Brown Wrap

My son did this one. Quick scissor work made the yellow strips. We use glue gun for speedy construction. The red and blue pieces are scraps from the craft paper bag. The white label is an office files label.

Easy: The repeated form of the yellow strips gives the easy elegance of nature, like grass or leaves. Using scraps for accent brings in another element of randomness.

Contrast: bright color/ dull brown.

Collage

Paper on Brown Wrap

This collage uses a variety of papers, including wall-paper scraps and some black dot stickers. There are some pieces of wood. on the tourquoise triangle.

Easy: A collage is an improvisation. You start with one or two pieces, and keep adding more. You can glue as you go. Or you can play with a group of pieces first, then glue when you see something ou like.

Contrast: many different textures and colors.

Very Small Wrap

Three Different Materials

Blue wallpaper, black-dotted red-paper "ribbon", and magenta berries from a bush: these three materials create a unique chord of color and texture.

Contrast: big dots/ little dots. 3-d berries/1-d paper dots.

Junk Mail Stickers

On Solid Wrap

At last— a use for all those little stickers that come in direct-mail marketing letters. This package always gets a laugh. It can be executed on any solid paper.

Easy: Just stick them on.

Contrast: gift giving/marketing graphics.
